'Making God Music'

by Doug Bahr, M.D. (WordAlone board member, McQueeny, TX)

News: January 13, 2006

Recently, while reviewing my 10-year-old daughter's schoolwork, I found a paper entitled "Making God Music." It reminded me that many groups and entities are working together, such as the Lutheran Churches of The Common Confession, the House of Studies, the hymnal task force, the Theological Advisory Board and Lutheran CORE, a new coalition of individuals, churches and renewal groups. All are uniting to renew, reform and reflect within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and to "make God music."

I would like to share my daughter's paper with you. She has been playing the violin for a little more three years now and she wrote the following:

The violin has to be made by a craftsman. A violin can't sound like a piano or a flute. Even though a violin sounds great in an orchestra, and blends in with the other instruments, each and every violin has its own unique sound.

Just like a violin has to be made by a craftsman, we are all made by God. Not all of us are football players or musicians. We are all someone different, and God has a purpose for us. If we all seek what God wants us to do, instead of what we want to do, and try to do it, it will make a beautiful sound in God's ears. You can make good music in your life by believing in Jesus Christ and accepting Him as your Lord and Savior.

At this busy time of year, I think we should heed the advice of one of our youngest members of the priesthood of all believers. We should slow down, be still and focus on God's will in our lives whether we be flutes or violins.
