Interim Pastors for New Church Starts

In recent weeks WordAlone has been contacted by several new church starts around the country looking for pastoral assistance to get going. Some of these new congregations have successfully found pastors using our Clergy Connect service. Others are not yet capable of supporting a full time pastor, but need pastoral assistance to help the congregation grow.

WordAlone is placing this notice on Clergy Connect to help locate pastors who may have a calling for short term interim positions in newly developing parishes. Here are the kinds of gifts and abilities we think may be needed for this:

  • Deep commitment to preaching and teaching ministry.
  • The ability to provide pastoral care for people transitioning out of the ELCA.
  • Excitement about starting new churches.
  • Experience in developing new congregations is extremely desirable.
  • A willingness to relocate for a period of time.
  • Some ability to be partially self-supporting (retired, sabbatical, tentmaker, etc.).

If this kind of challenge stirs your interest and sense of call WordAlone would like to talk to you. We are planning to add this new capability to our Chaplains Corps. WordAlone Chaplains have already been very successful in helping to start new churches. We would like to develop a team who is mobile to fill the need in places we do not have chaplains. If you are willing to consider this please contact Pr. Mike Hanson at strengthfinder@gmail.com.

You may view the list of chaplains who have already made themselves available for such service. Click Here.

Senior Pastor

Church information: St. Paul’s is a congregation of 562 baptized members with an average Sunday worship attendance of 265. St. Paul’s disaffiliated from the ELCA in May 2009 by a vote of 99%, at which time we joined LCMC. We are currently considering dual affiliation with the NALC. The newly selected senior pastor will play an active role in the selection of additional clergy and/or staff. There is a strong sense of church family, which we want to share with the inactive and the un-churched of our growing community. Our congregation is debt free with a strong benevolence budget. For additional information on our congregation, please see our website (link above). We seek a pastor who meets LCMC and/or NALC ministry standards and possesses strong preaching/worship & leadership skills. ELCA pastors who want to move to LCMC or the NALC are encouraged to respond. All replies will be held in strictest confidence.

Area Information: We are a growing rural community located between Charlotte and Greensboro North Carolina. The ministry vacancy is due to the announced retirement of the current Pastor who has served our congregation for 22 years. A transition time through 2012 has been offered by current Pastor.
