Pacifica Synod Assembly Resolution

Call for Constitutional Changes to

Provide a Voice for All Confirmed Members.

This resolution asked the synod assembly to memorialize the 2003 Churchwide Assembly to amend bylaws to the ELCA and synod constitutions. Specifically, the measure called for changes that would require voting members at the synod and Churchwide assemblies to act on issues relating to the ELCA’s policies on ordination of practicing homosexuals based on the majority views of the congregation (synod assembly) or synod (Churchwide) from which they come. The resolution, debated at some length by voting members, failed by a margin of 228 to 144.
