RESOLUTION
Calling for Churchwide Constitutional Changes to Provide Alternate Ordination Standards

WHEREAS, a
considerable number of the
members, congregations,
seminarians and

pastors of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America (ELCA) cannot,
for scriptural and
3
confessional reasons
(e.g. John 1 7:22-23;
Galatians, e.g. 6:14-15;
Augsburg Confession

Article Vil), accept
a requirement that our
bishops must be installed
into the historic
5
episcopate and
pastors must be ordained by
bishops in the historic
episcopate; and
6
WHEREAS, the 2000
Minneapolis Area Synod
Assembly adopted RC2000-10
requesting
7
that the ELCA
Churchwide constitution and
bylaws be amended to allow
for freedom from
8
the above
requirements; and
9
RESOLVED, that the
2001 Assembly of the
Minneapolis Area Synod
hereby amends the
10
action of the 2000
Assembly known as RC2000-10
by deleting all occurrences
of the
11
phrase "in
exceptional
circumstances" and
re-adopts RC2000-10 as
amended, and be it
12
further
13
RESOLVED, that the
2001 Assembly of the
Minneapolis Area Synod
memorializes the
14
2001 Churchwide
Assembly to enact the
amendments to the churchwide
governing
15
documents specified
in RC2000-10 as amended.
